6th Birthday Party (and links to some freebies)April 18, 2011 at 8:22 am | Posted in crafts, totally random | Leave a comment
Today J turns 6 years old. To celebrate we had his birthday party on Saturday at the local park – the weather was beautiful! The battery in my camera was dying, so I was in a hurry to take pictures and none of them really turned out. (But that obviously didn’t stop me from posting them.)
We don’t really make a big deal out of birthdays, but I do like to make a nice cake. My creative side was disappointed this year – J wanted a blue square cake with an orange square on it. There are so many cool things that you can do with cake and fondant, and he wanted a single basic shape. I haven’t used real fondant before – and I was surprised that it was so easy to work with. And J was very happy with how it turned out.
We grilled hot dogs, and I made a simple macaroni salad and green bean salad to go with the chips. Nothing fancy or expensive, just a fun time with family. (We usually end up having a birthday party with my family in Florida too, but this year we won’t be seeing them until the end of May.)
And to top it off today we are going out to get some fun birthday freebies:
- Baskin Robbins – 1 free ice cream scoop
- Sonic – free kids “Wacky Pack” meal
- Borders – free cupcake
- Barnes and Noble – free cupcake and Tikatok Create-A-Book project
- Toys R Us sends you a $3 gift card and you get a balloon in the store ($3 is enough for a bouncy ball or a few hot wheels cars)
- Buger King – free kids meal
- Ace Hardware – free ice cream and balloon in store
Toys R Us, Barnes and Noble, and Burger King require advance sign up (at least a month before the birthday) but I signed up for the others last week and received emails for his free stuff today.
