Super second hand store find!

I was at the second hand store yesterday buying an ugly rose print on a nice wooden plaque to modify into a sign.  I love being able to make things like this with my cricut and SCAL!  I think the purple and yellow clash so bad!  But, the customer wanted an LSU colored sign, so I made it.  I really have a hard time using colors like this, especially when blue on white would have matched the stores colors, and blue would have looked so much better.  Oh well, happy customer, and happy me for making my 4th sale this year.

Anyways, while I was in the second hand store, I browsed through the books.  Always a bad idea considering the amount of books we already have, but really, can one ever have too many good books?  I found this treasure for $0.50:

Readers Digest Crafts & Hobbies, published in 1979.  I thought that it would probably have some dated projects in it, but a quick flip through looked pretty good so I bought it.  I am so glad that I did!  This evening I sat down and flipped through it, and I am very impressed at how much of a comprehensive guide to crafting it really is.   The categories are each filled with step by step directions and illustrations, as well as sample project patterns and instructions.  And they cover everything!  The 37 categories include:

  • Leather working
  • Macrame`
  • Metal working
  • Candle making
  • Jewelry
  • Enameling
  • Woodworking
  • Baking
  • Origami
  • Stained glass
  • Batik and tie dye

There is even a section on cutting your own cabochons from semi precious stones!  I love being able to go online and find tutorials for my art projects, but having an actual book is sometimes easier.  I can lay it on the table and quit running back and forth to the computer screen.  Anyhow, if you happen to find this book at your second hand store – don’t pass it up!  Or you can buy it for next to nothing on Amazon (its listed for $8 new and $0.01 used)  Great crafty possibilities are always good to have on hand :0)
